Due to many changes in this modern new world and to globalization, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has been widely developed all over the world. However, instead of coping with this rapidly changing world, traditional views and theories are still being adopted to language teaching in Algeria. This led to failure in situations where English is used as a medium of communication for Business students in particular. For this purpose, the present research study attempts to identify the Business students’ needs in order to communicate effectively, and then to explore the teaching approaches that would enhance their communicative skills. Therefore, two types of research methods were conducted targeting Doctoral students of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Management Sciences at Mostaganem University, namely; case study and action research. A mixed methods research tools was used as to cross-check data, relying on both quantitative and qualitative data analysis including, questionnaire for students, interviews for teachers, pre and post course tests in addition to a feedback questionnaire for students. The main results of this study reveal that communication constitutes a major language component in both academic and professional settings for Business students while particular attention should be given to the productive communicative skills (speaking and writing). Consequently, a communication based course was developed to enhance students’ communicative skills through the integration of tasks and activities that are most relevant to students’ needs. Furthermore, students’ progress and their satisfaction demonstrates the positive impact of the implemented course on the students’ linguistic and communicative competences.
