Titre : Aspects of the Novel Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : E.M. Forster, Auteur Editeur : Englad : Penguin book Année de publication : 2005 Importance : 204 p. Format : 20*13 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-14-144169-6 Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : E.M. Forster's Aspects of the Novel is an innovative and effusive treatise on a literary form that, at the time of publication, had only recently begun to enjoy serious academic consideration. This Penguin Classics edition is edited with an introduction by Oliver Stallybrass, and features a new preface by Frank Kermode. First given as a series of lectures at Cambridge University, Aspects of the Novel is Forster's analysis of this great literary form. Here he rejects the 'pseudoscholarship' of historical criticism - 'that great demon of chronology' - that considers writers in terms of the period in which they wrote and instead asks us to imagine the great novelists working together in a single room. He discusses aspects of people, plot, fantasy and rhythm, making illuminating comparisons between novelists such as Proust and James, Dickens and Thackeray, Eliot and Dostoyevsky - the features shared by their books and the ways in which they differ. Written in a wonderfully engaging and conversational manner, this penetrating work of criticism is full of Forster's habitual irreverence, wit and wisdom. In his new introduction, Frank Kermode discusses the ways in which Forster's perspective as a novelist inspired his lectures. This edition also includes the original introduction by Oliver Stallybrass, a chronology, further reading and appendices. E. M. Forster (1879-1970) was a noted English author and critic and a member of the Bloomsbury group. His first novel, Where Angels Fear To Tread appeared in 1905. The Longest Journey appeared in 1907, followed by A Room With A View (1908), based partly on the material from extended holidays in Italy with his mother. Howards End (1910) was a story that centered on an English country house and dealt with the clash between two families, one interested in art and literature, the other only in business. Maurice was revised several times during his life, and finally published posthumously in 1971. If you enjoyed Aspects of the Novel Aspects of the Novel [texte imprimé] / E.M. Format : 18x26 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-4443-3853-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : An extraordinary collection of essays that more than fulfills the aims of its editors, Alastair Phillips and Ginette Vincendeau. The essays offer exciting, original work from younger scholars as well as long-established authorities, all of which offer invaluable insights into the films, writings, and life of Jean Renoir. Receiving particular attention are questions about the singularity or multiplicity of what the editors call the many ‘Renoirs’ (French, American, Indian; even transnational), especially from the early 1930s through the early 1960s. Whether mining relatively unexplored archive materials, deploying newly current methodological approaches, interrogating one of a wide range of topics and issues, or engaging in close textual analysis, the contributors construct a tantalizing series of innovative ‘road maps’ for future researchers to pursue.”

Titre : A Descent into Edgar Allan Poe and His Works: The Bicentennial Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Beatriz González Moreno, Auteur ; Margarita Rigal Aragón, Auteur Mention d'édition : New edition Editeur : Peter Lang AG, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften Année de publication : 2010 Importance : 152 p. Format : 13x20 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-0343-0089-6 Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : Today Edgar Allan Poe is a well-known and highly regarded author. When, a hundred years ago (1909), a group of Poe acquaintances, fans and scholars got together at the University of Virginia to commemorate Poe’s birth centenary, they had to do so in order to modify the persistent misstatements of his earlier biographers, and to correct the unsettled judgment of his literary rank.
Now, in 2009, many Poe fans and scholars are gathering together once more to honour Poe on the second centenary of his birth. Different types of events (theatrical and musical performances, book auctions, etc.) and academic conferences have been celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic, acclaiming Poe’s literary rank again. This volume brings together a wide range of scholars with varied critical approaches and succeeds in shedding new light on E. A. Poe on the occasion of his Bicentenary. The book is organized into three principal sections; the first part focuses on the reception of Poe in Great Britain, France, and Spain; the second revisits some of Poe’s main legacies, such as his stories of detection, the Gothic, and Science Fiction; and the third deals with the aesthetic quality of his narratives and also offers an analysis of his work integrating Text Linguistics within the broader study of social discourses.En ligne : https://www.amazon.ca/Descent-into-Edgar-Allan-Works/dp/3034300891 A Descent into Edgar Allan Poe and His Works: The Bicentennial [texte imprimé] / Beatriz González Moreno, Auteur ; Margarita Rigal Aragón, Auteur . - New edition . - Peter Lang AG, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften, 2010 . - 152 p. ; 13x20 cm.

Mallarme's writings about the nature and purposes of art lie behind much modern critical theory. There is no sharp distinction between his poetry and his prose; in both he was exercising his art; and in both he was preoccupied by the same things. Yet the prose is little studied. Dr Kravis treats it under the headings of literary, music and dramatic criticism, translation, writing on fashion and on language. She shows the intellectual links between the various interests. More important, she shows how the prose is an art which does what it talks about. Quotation is in French, so this is primarily a book for the reader of French. But it is important for any serious reader of modern literature.
