The Intertextual Reading of the Utopian Discourse in English Travel Literature / Nawal KECHIDA
Titre : The Intertextual Reading of the Utopian Discourse in English Travel Literature Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Nawal KECHIDA, Auteur Editeur : université de Tlemcen Année de publication : 2018 Importance : 200 p. Format : 21*27 cm.
The Intertextual Reading of the Utopian Discourse in English Travel Literature [texte imprimé] / Nawal KECHIDA, Auteur . - université de Tlemcen, 2018 . - 200 p. ; 21*27 cm.

to think critically through reading literary texts. To achieve this aim, the researcher opted for a descriptive
method in the most phases of field work. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches are used to explore the
teaching of critical thinking skills in higher education level. An interview was administered with three teachers
from the department of English at Kasdi Merbah University, Algeria, Ouargla during the academic year
2016/2017.The sample of the interview tool was chosen according to the purposive sampling which focuses on
the literature teachers. The interview aimed to explore the teachers‘ perceptions towards the teaching of critical
thinking skills for higher education students. A questionnaire was conducted on 60 students of first year LMD
students out of 220 registered in the department of English. The students were selected randomly to respond
the questionnaire. The questionnaire‘s aim was to elicit the students‘ perceptions towards the teaching of
critical thinking skills during the literature class. A classroom observation was used to observe the motivational
and psychological factors that influence the teaching of critical thinking as a skill in an EFL classroom. The
findings indicate that teaching critical thinking skills is not integrated in the official curriculum as a
fundamental teaching skill. Teaching critical thinking through the literary texts needs more focus on the
teaching of critical thinking concepts for both teachers and students to be used effectively in the appropriate

Résumé : The literature around the topic of gender is often focused on the notion that achieving gender equity
precedes other considerations regarding social, political, and economic issues. This research work
examines the legitimacy of this view and the historical evolution of the social and legal interventions
to achieve its agenda. The aim is to explore the historical changes of gender relations at the social,
economic and political levels that were instigated by U.S and foreign governments (Japan and the EU)
to address the issue of gender inequality. A combination of ethnographic and correlational research
methods were used to help achieve this aim, which is to make a prediction regarding the unintended
consequences of pursuing absolute gender equality in the U.S. The findings of this research suggest
that the equation that led to a military and economic “boom” in the U.S after the Second World War
witnessed a drastic change. This drastic change in the variables of the “boom equation” will lead to the
emergence of a “doom equation” affected by and affecting fertility and divorce rates. The Pursuit of Absolute Gender Equality: The Unintended Consequences of Government Policy on Fertility and Divorce Rates in Post 1960 America [texte imprimé] / Youcef BENNAA, Auteur . - université de Tlemcen, 2020/2021 . - 210 p. ; 21/27 cm.

Format : 21/27 cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : discourse, resistance, truth, subjectivity, Foucault, Lugones, Muslim characters Résumé : Throughout history, Islam has been perceived as a religion of terror and violence. Recently, in the
wake of September 11 th attacks, this discourse has been reinforced. In the literary sphere, a large corpus of
textual representation of this horrific incident sought to depict this event’s impact on the country and its
population. Several novelists supported Islam’s perception in the Western mind while other voices, including
Muslim as well as non-Muslim ones, contributed through giving a voice to the “enemy” and depicted Islam
and Muslim characters positively. The purpose of the present study, then, is to provide evidence that both of
Linda-Jamilah Kolocotronis and Amy Waldman portray Muslim characters’ efforts to resist the distorted
image they are associated with in their works Innocent People (2003) and The Submission (2011),
respectively; pinpointing the strategies Muslim characters rely on in order to resist the hegemonic discourse
of Islam as a religion of terror. In order to reach this aim, the researcher will follow Michel Foucault’s and
Maria Lugones’ models which would help in analyzing Muslim characters’ resistance and attempt to prove
their innocence and undermine their constructed image. Moreover, the present study is an attempt to prove
that both novelists highlight the subjectivity of truth and history through providing readers with a different
version of Muslims’ reality and opening their eyes to a different interpretation of history. To this effect, this
theoretical and analytical study is carried out.The Representation of Muslims in Selected Post 9/11 American Novels [texte imprimé] / Sara ABDERRAZAG, Auteur . - université de Tlemcen, 2019/2020 . - 216 p. ; 21/27 cm.

dimension of English language through the programme of civilisation. The findings of the
research have concluded that this neglect of teaching culture has to do with many
teaching/learning pedagogies and classroom practices such as the teaching content, the

amongst which literary dialect has gained much interest. Its manifestation in literary texts is
recorded in the British and the American popular literature. It is mainly used to verbalize and voice
characters from specific class, locality and ethnicity which cannot be articulated through the
Standard English. The existence of dialects in the novel is the result of the authors‘ awareness of its
necessity to render their stories authentically. The use of dialect manifests as a linguistic
transgression of the pre-set literary standards. Yet, literary dialect helps the reader to construct
knowledge about its speakers, their speech habits and cultural performances. This research looks to

professional developmentRésumé : Teacher's self-evaluation is paramount in teacher professional development for
teachers, and particularly for EFL teachers. It enables the teacher to become
more effective and more reflective. Furthermore, it leads to better learning
achievement in the classroom, as it has been demonstrated in the present study.
Unfortunately, teacher training programmes do not include a „Reflective Model‟
in teacher education; and this situation makes self-evaluation a real problem for
future teachers.Exemplaires (1)

learning in closing the achievement gap between the high- and the low-achievers in oral
expression and its positive impact on the Algerian EFL learners’ motivation and attitudes. The
study involved a sample of 44 second year English students at the University of Abbes
Laghrour Khenchela, Algeria. This research adopted a true experimental design and employed
a set of data collection methods (a pretest, a posttest, a questionnaire, and structured
interviews). Findings revealed that cooperative learning is an efficient instrument to bridge
the achievement gap between the high- and the low-achieving students and to motivate the
latter and alter their negative attitudes toward oral expression activities into positive ones.
Based on the findings, the researchers provided some recommendations concerning the
implementation of cooperative learning in the EFL classroom.Using Cooperative Learning to Bridge the Achievement Gap in Oral Expression: The Case of 2nd Year EFL Students at Khenchela University [texte imprimé] / Tarek GHODBANE, Auteur . - université de Tlemcen, 2020/2021 . - 257 p. ; 21/27 cm.

Format : 21*27 cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : Language attrition sprang out as a new field of research as regression in language
performance in foreign language learners appeared. Vocabulary as one of the skills
that can be forgotten gained the interest of researchers aiming at finding the rate and
the causes of its attrition. The present work tries to uncover some of the variables
that may have an impact on lexical attrition as a significant loss of the vocabulary
learnt has been noticed on EFL students at the University of Tlemcen. The
researcher opted for a longitudinal study to explore the phenomenon over a longer
period (12 months) and observe the changes in vocabulary forgetting. She
multiplied the instruments of research, thus she used six tests, two questionnaires
and an interview with the participants to draw enough data. The results showed a
considerable amount of loss in the studied lexis rather than failure to retrieve the
words. As for the variables tackled, it was found out that lower proficiency level
and inadequate use of vocabulary learning strategies were reliable factors having an
impact on vocabulary forgetting; however, disuse over summer vacation, higher
motivation and favourable attitude towards studying English, and vocabulary
teaching methodology did not show influence on lexical attrition. Moreover, it was
uncovered that productive vocabulary was more forgotten than receptive, and that
verbs were more prone to be attritted. Yet, it can be concluded from the whole study
that lexical attrition can be reduced as long as learners are highly motivated and
showing a positive attitude to the language but exerting the required efforts to learn
the language, notably by the use of the appropriate learning strategies, and at the
same time maintaining exposure to the language to exert an unintentional learning
of words and language as a whole.VOCABULARY ATTRITION IN THE DISCOURSE COMPREHENSION MODULE: THE CASE OF SECOND-YEAR EFL STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TLEMCEN [texte imprimé] / Hadia HAKEM-BENKHENAFOU, Auteur . - Tlemcen : University Aboubakr Belkaid, 2019 . - 323 p. ; 21*27 cm.

Orality in Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God and Ellison’s Invisible Man" endeavors
to study the linguistic and cultural aspects of orality throughout the novels of Hurston’s Their
Eyes Were Watching God and Ellison’s Invisible Man. This five-chapter thesis focuses on the
key concepts of orality and Ebonics as an African-American dialect. The first part of the work
recalls some aspects of the African-American literature. The second part includes a literary
analysis of both novels, accompanied by a thematic and a stylistic study for each. The third
part deals with the analysis of Ebonics at the phonological, grammatical and lexical levels as
well as with the different aspects of the Black oral culture within both novels. A comparative
study between the two novels concludes this thesis. In brief, this thesis shows how Hurston
and Ellison; by integrating orality into their novels, were able on one hand to preserve their
Black oral culture and on the other hand to enrich the American literature.Voice into Text: the Linguistic and Cultural Aspects of Orality in Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God and Ellison’s Invisible Man [texte imprimé] / Imene Sebiane Chikh, Auteur . - Tlemcen : University Aboubakr Belkaid, 2019 . - 354 p. ; 21/27 cm.

Ministers only without any possibility to include women. Allowing women to stand as MPs to be
elected in 1918 represented a turning point in the history of women’s political participation. After
WWII, the female employment opportunities were maximized, however their increased political
integration remained in question. The aim of this research is twofold. On the one hand, it attempts
to investigate the female political immersion from 1945 till 1997 shedding light on the ups and
downs women went through in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. On the other hand,
it tries to elucidate the nature of gender relations and the impact of the female entry to the “Men’s
House” on male-female political relations. To meet this end, the qualitative method is relied on
through resorting to books, articles, blogs and archive materials. The findings show that the female
involvement in parliamentary politics was overshadowed by a lone criterion which is
underrepresentation. Despite some high ministerial positions granted to women, the female
appointees continued to represent the elite and underrepresented minority in the bicameral
parliament. Put simply, the female integration’s impact was dual. It was a double-edged sword. It
strengthened fruitful male-female relations and, inevitably, triggered hostile and unstable reactions
in other cases.Women’s Political Participation in England and its Impact on Gender Relations in Parliamentary Politics (1945-1997) [texte imprimé] / Laounia GOURCHAL, Auteur . - université de Tlemcen, 2021/2022 . - 332 p. ; 21x27 cm.
