Scientific Papers.Résumé : The present study endeavours to empirically investigate an ESP situation where
master physics students at the university of Tlemcen encountered difficulties while writing
scientific papers. Based on the results obtained from the mixed methods of data collection
and analysis, this work has argued that the main difficulties lie in terms of format and
content. This is why rethinking about the ESP course is more than needed. In addition to
this, training language teachers to cope with those difficulties should alert the staff to
ensure that training as well as clarify the underlying methodology of materials

communication in formal settings, like education, while the colloquial forms areusedin
relaxed settings. Being an Arabic-speaking country, Algeriafalls into the pattern of Arabic
diglossia. Yet, observing language use in authentic situations does escape the rule. Any
observer will agree that in formal settings, speakers switch codes; instead of using MSA
solely, they tend to mix it with colloquial Arabic. In education, considering its three levels,
primary, middle and secondary schools, the learners are supposed to stick to Modern Standard
Arabic in class. However, diglossic switching is far from being a strange practice in class. In
the fieldwork of the present research, reasons laying behind this linguistic phenomenon have
been explored, mainly the pupils’ attitudes towards the available linguistic codes as well as
the lack of fluency in MSA.A Sociolinguistic Analysis of Diglossic Switching in Algerian Classroom Settings: MSA/Colloquial Arabic Alternation in Primary, Middle and Secondary Levels [texte imprimé] / Lamia BENADLA, Auteur . - université de Tlemcen, 2022/2023 . - 231 p. ; 21x27 cm.

mother tongue of the Algerian learner, on the other, makes the process of
learning an arduous one. This thesis examines the classroom discourse in
primary school. Describing first, how primary school teachers and learners
have co constructed the classroom talk. It then considers lesson description by
exploring teachers’ knowledge, understanding of, and attitudes towards,
languages and diglossia. The study scrutinizes primary teachers’ attitudes vis-
à-vis the introduction of dual variety education in Algerian classroom. The
data are discussed in terms of education and second language acquisition
theory and Algerian education and language policies. The results indicate that
the teachers lack awareness about this linguistic issue which overwhelm the
Algerian classroom. They all recognize that a lack of exposure to MSA is the
primary cause of language problems for learners and that AA, the mother
tongue is a downgraded variety and does not need to be maintained or
promoted in the school. However, they do accept the introduction of dual
language education as strategy to help learners learning MSA in an early age.
The thesis concludes that shortcomings in training and information encourage
these two assumptions to take root and that the implementation of three-year
kindergarten institution in which the instruction will be in both AA and MSA

analyse its linguistic consequences in the speech of three rural groups from Beni Snous valley
(forty-five kilometres south-west of Tlemcen) because of their long-term contact with each other

original forms in the speech of these groups are reduced and which new forms are adopted via the
process of linguistic accommodation. The study is set in two different settings: a local rural setting

Format : 21/27 cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Oran Arabic/French Code-Switching, asymmetry, cognition, congruence,
semantic and syntactic mismatch, Algerian bilinguals, Oran Arabic.Résumé : This research attempts to describe and analyze some linguistic practices among Algerian
students resulting from contact between Oran Arabic and French. Indeed, this study is based
mainly on a double orientation. The first approach appears to be descriptive/ analytic, and tries
to apply the theoretical and empirical foundations of the insertional models proposed by MyersScotton on a corpus realized among university students recorded in different speech situations
even if university remains the major context (formal setting). The second approach seems to be
interpretive principally based on quantitative and qualitative methods in order to test the
empirical validity and the explanatory power of Myers-Scotton’s insertional models.
The main idea underlying this research seeks to establish a link between the asymmetry in
the different patterns of Oran Arabic/French Code-Switching realized by bilingual students
showing varying degrees of bilinguality, and the asymmetry with regard to the organization of
the various system and content morphemes in the mental lexicon.
Despite the structural explanations of the dueling languages permitting the alternation
from French to Oran Arabic and vice versa, other factors appear to be influential in the shaping
of mixed constructions, namely the speakers’ competence in the languages involved in the
mixed constructions, the pragmatic intentions of the interlocutors when producing mixed
constituents, Embedded Islands and Internal Islands as well as the speakers’ attitudes towards
the languages involved in bilingual speech.
In fact, this research is basically founded on a corpus of spontaneous conversations
recorded among some Algerian bilingual/plurilingual students. The analysis of the students’
productions tries to demonstrate the directionality of Code-Switching in an Algerian context
where the emplacement, the distribution and the status of the syntactic categories/structures
were investigated when French and Oran Arabic have been shown as Matrix or Embedded
Languages in the corpus.
Unlike other researches on Code-Switching and mainly studies undertaken by Ziamari,
which targeted the correlation of the specificities of Moroccan Arabic/French Code-Switching
to the fact of urbanity, this research aims to demonstrate that the linguistic dynamism due to
Oran Arabic/French duality is the result of a particular practice that distinguishes a community
of practice (that of bilingual students) from other linguistic communities. For this purpose, the
context (university) as an urban structure cannot be the only trigger of Code-Switching if the
pragmatic intentions of the interlocutors do not favor this linguistic act.
The results obtained in this research showed that the insertion of French constructions in
a morphosyntactic frame governed by OrA as a Matrix Language is characterized by a
predominance of certain structures, namely noun phrase islands, mixed nominal constituents,
and inflectional phrases. Also, the results showed an asymmetry in the roles assigned to
languages involved in CS (Arabic and French Oran in this case). Oran Arabic appears as the
Matrix Language in most mixed-codes whereas French’ role was limited to an Embedded
Language despite the abundance of embedded structures from this language.
The insertional models which constitute the theoretical framework of this research
provide consistent elements of answers to many questions raised in this study. These models
treating issues relevant to syntax and cognition indicate a flexibility of analysis and facilitate the
understanding of complex linguistic phenomena generated by plurilingualism. Notwithstanding,
other avenues of exploration appear to be completive to this research should target the
application of the basic principles of Myers-Scotton’s models by adopting a didactic
perspective where problems of the acquisition of French and English syntactic
categories and larger constructions, error analysis, and problems of interference would

students resulting from contact between Oran Arabic and French.

Résumé : The literature around the topic of gender is often focused on the notion that achieving gender equity
precedes other considerations regarding social, political, and economic issues. This research work
examines the legitimacy of this view and the historical evolution of the social and legal interventions
to achieve its agenda. The aim is to explore the historical changes of gender relations at the social,
economic and political levels that were instigated by U.S and foreign governments (Japan and the EU)
to address the issue of gender inequality. A combination of ethnographic and correlational research
methods were used to help achieve this aim, which is to make a prediction regarding the unintended
consequences of pursuing absolute gender equality in the U.S. The findings of this research suggest
that the equation that led to a military and economic “boom” in the U.S after the Second World War

Mots-clés : Gender, Equality, Divorce, Fertility, Feminism.
The findings of this research suggest
that the equation that led to a military and economic “boom” in the U.S after the Second World War
witnessed a drastic change. This drastic change in the variables of the “boom equation” will lead to the
emergence of a “doom equation” affected by and affecting fertility and divorce rates.Exemplaires (1)

Titre : The Representation of Muslims in Selected Post 9/11 American Novels Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Sara ABDERRAZAG, Auteur Editeur : université de Tlemcen Année de publication : 2019/2020 Importance : 216 p. Format : 21/27 cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : discourse, resistance, truth, subjectivity, Foucault, Lugones, Muslim characters Résumé : Throughout history, Islam has been perceived as a religion of terror and violence. Recently, in the
wake of September 11 th attacks, this discourse has been reinforced. In the literary sphere, a large corpus of
textual representation of this horrific incident sought to depict this event’s impact on the country and its
population. Several novelists supported Islam’s perception in the Western mind while other voices, including
Muslim as well as non-Muslim ones, contributed through giving a voice to the “enemy” and depicted Islam
and Muslim characters positively. The purpose of the present study, then, is to provide evidence that both of
Linda-Jamilah Kolocotronis and Amy Waldman portray Muslim characters’ efforts to resist the distorted
image they are associated with in their works Innocent People (2003) and The Submission (2011),
respectively; pinpointing the strategies Muslim characters rely on in order to resist the hegemonic discourse
of Islam as a religion of terror. In order to reach this aim, the researcher will follow Michel Foucault’s and
Maria Lugones’ models which would help in analyzing Muslim characters’ resistance and attempt to prove
their innocence and undermine their constructed image. Moreover, the present study is an attempt to prove
that both novelists highlight the subjectivity of truth and history through providing readers with a different
version of Muslims’ reality and opening their eyes to a different interpretation of history. To this effect, this
theoretical and analytical study is carried out.The Representation of Muslims in Selected Post 9/11 American Novels [texte imprimé] / Sara ABDERRAZAG, Auteur . - université de Tlemcen, 2019/2020 . - 216 p. ; 21/27 cm.

over the last few decades have been receiving the lion’s share in the
comparative foreign policy literature. However, the Arab uprisings that swept a
number of Arab states beginning in 2010 have brought the U.S.-Middle Eastern
relations even forward. The dramatic and sudden change that has taken place
since January 25th, 2011 specifically and its subsequent outcomes constituted
an interesting challenge to relatively consistent U.S. foreign policy toward the
